can my previous employer contact my current employer with informaton about me?

I am currently in the middle of a civil agreement with my current employer and they keep threatening to call my current employer regarding information about me. if they do it is likly i will lose my current job. I have not worked for my prevoiuse employer for 3 and ahalf years but the issue they have with me is recent.

Usually emplyers are not supposed to give negative references, if you feel threatned by your current emplyer I would probably wirte to them and ask them for a copy of the reference that they will be providing on your behalf. You can then get a professional to have a look at the reference so check that it has been written appropriatly. You shouln't feel threatned by you previous employer.
