Hi
To cut a long story short, I was able to claim Legal aid for my divorce, in court I was to be given 60% of the money left after marital home was repossessed and my ex husband was to get the other 40% ( the mortgage was only in his name ).
The sum of £6,878.30 was transferred to my solicitors bank on 14th december 2007 and was to stay there until divorce was final and the bill of costs was approved, at the end of my divorce my solicitors bill was £5,994.40 and my ex husband only had to pay about £400. I received a cheque yesterday for £925.07 which included £41.17 of interest that had built up on the money while in my solicitors bank account. From start to finish my divorce took 3 years
Does this sound right.
I am now living in rented accommodation with my new partner and my 2 children aged 5 and 6 and we about to become homeless as landlord is selling to house, I have over £2,000 of debt to pay from the marriage but the money I received doesn't come close to paying them off. My partner is self employed and is on a low income after we deduct all his costs and I do not work at the moment.
I know that some money is better than none and I do feel lucky that I came away with something.
Regards
Sybsey
